Customs Trouble

A small engineering company in the North East received a routine visit from Customs and Excise, following which, and assessment was issued for £45,000 including a serious misdeclaration penalty. Customs were convinced VAT had been under declared.

Following a claim on the policy, and independent VAT specialist became involved, and a challenge made to the assessment. After months of examining records and negotiations, the assessment was declared invalid.

Without the involvement of both the accountant and the VAT specialist, it is unlikely the assessment would have been resisted so successfully.

Professional fees of £3,000 were paid out under the Professional Fee Protection policy.
